Subject: [IML] Quest: Image resolutions
Hi...
I'm looking for some specialist knowledge here.
Could anybody with any experience of rendering images to be used for still
photographic negatives, i.e. 35mm, 4x5, etc suggest the image size and
therefore the resolution, that images should be rendered at?
The same for movie industry film formats? I guess this one is aimed at
Todd, if he's about.
This should be the optimal sizes for images, not "well I diid it at such
and such and it looked alright":)
I am aware of commercial and desktop print resolutions.

I could not find a definate answer for any of the still neg sizes, but
I do have info for VistaVision, which is theoretically the same "size"
as 35mm still (ie. 8 perf horizontal travel):
1.485" x 0.991"
This is a perfect 1:1.50 aspect ratio. This is why printing to 4"x6"
maintains the full neg area. Printing to 3.5"x5" is only 1:1.43,
which loses some of the neg area.
The Kodak web site may have all the info on neg sizes:
